MacCulloch & Wallis - Case Study


Based in Fitzrovia, MacCulloch & Wallis are London’s busiest and most high profile retailer of Haberdashery, Millinery and Fabric supplies, to both the general public and trade customers.

Although a long term EPOS client of Sparkstone, they had been using an Ecommerce website developed by a third-party supplier, which utilised our web services data stream.

Unfortunately the other provider couldn’t continue their service, so M&W asked us at short notice to deliver a website to match the complex functionality that had previously been developed over several years.

Delivered on time and on budget

In just 6 weeks we delivered a website that not only replicated the previous functionality of their website, but it also improved on it with exciting new features like our slide out colour picker and a responsive design that helps to improve mobile usability.

Because we already handled M&W’s stock management data we had a better idea than most how to organise the website, but M&W wanted to offer complex discount structures that weren’t used by any of our other clients. So we created sophisticated pricing rules that allow M&W to sell ribbons and trimming by the metre or by the roll, and even as a box of rolls. These product ‘inners’ and ‘outers’ add useful new functionality to our already sophisticated matrix structure and we think they’ll be a welcome addition to our core code in future releases.
